Delhi Air Quality: Thick blanket of smog covers Delhi day after Diwali, AQI in ‘very poor’ category | Delhi News - The Indian Express
Delhi, NCR AQI Today: A thick layer of smog engulfed Delhi today morning as the air quality index (AQI) of the National Capital Region shot up to 361 — which is in the ‘very poor’ category — according to the reading at 7 am.
According to data provided by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the worst air quality in the city was recorded at R K Puram, where the AQI stood at 398 (very poor category), followed by Sonia Vihar, Anand Vihar and Burari, all crossing 395. As many as 36 stations recorded AQI above 300.
AQI between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, 401 and 450 severe, and above 450 severe-plus.
Every year in the capital it is a common trend for the firecrackers to be set off in defiance of the ban. This causes the PM2.5 and PM10 levels to soar and worsen the 24-hour average air quality in Delhi.
The Delhi government had on October 14 imposed a complete ban on firecrackers, including their manufacturing, storage, sale, usage and online delivery. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had also warned of increase in pollution levels with Diwali and stubble burning season coinciding this year.
However, despite the ban, reports indicated widespread violation of it across east and west Delhi with firecrackers lighting up the sky in areas such as Jaunapur, Punjabi Bagh, Burari and East of Kailash.
The air quality in Mumbai also deteriorated with the AQI standing at 172 in the ‘moderate’ category. However, out of 22 stations in Mumbai, nine stations recorded AQI in the ‘poor’ category. Colaba in Navy Nagar recorded the worst AQI of 305 in the city, followed by Sewri (284), Kandivali (252), Malad (West) (232), Mindspace (223), Byculla (224), Kherwadi (Bandra East) (220), Deonar (203), and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) (202).
A heart-warming moment unfolded in Bengaluru when a son surprised his mother with a brand-new iPhone 15 for Diwali. He shared that she had been using an old Redmi phone for four years, which he said was “living its last days.” It had always been his dream to give her an iPhone, and during this festive season, he finally made it happen.
